Influenza Vaccination Recommendations

Influenza vaccinations (Flu shots) are offered beginning every October. Getting the flu shot reduces the chances of getting the flu and spread it to others.

High risk population is recommended to get the flu shot every year:

People who should be vaccinated each year are:

  • Children aged 6-59 months
  • Pregnant women
  • People 50 years or older
  • People with chronic health conditions
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • Household contacts for those who are at high risk for serious flu complications
  • Household contacts and caregivers for children less than 6 months old
  • Healthcare workers

People who should NOT be vaccinated each year are:

  • People with severe allergy to chicken eggs
  • People who’ve had a severe reaction to the vaccination in the past
  • People who previously developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome within six week of getting the vaccine.
  • Children less than 6 months of age
  • People who have a moderate or severe illness with a fever should wait to get vaccinated until their symptoms lessen.
